To convince his son to stay in college, Thornton Melon (Rodney Dangerfield) goes to college to finally get his degree. But Thornton is rich, always the life of the party, and newly divorced: not the best traits to help a person study hard and graduate.

Thornton Melon is in a deep academic trouble. He's been using teams of professionals to do all his college coursework, but several of his teachers have become convinced that he's cheating. The only way Thornton can stay in school is to pass an oral exam given by each of his professors. Thornton has to cram a semester's worth of college into just a few days to get ready for the tests.
