In a desperate attempt to both get his friend back and payback his loan shark, Todd comes up with a plan to make his friend undesireable for use by Morgan Fairchild's magazine. He sets up a fake grade-changing scam he uses to convince Morgan Fairchild that her new magazine spokesman is involved with some shady dealings.

This is about as convoluted and silly a plan as you can get. Why not just have Brett the diver pretend he is addicted to smack, thats gotta be pretty undesirable in a magazine spokesman (remember, this is the late 80s, heroin wasn't the cool thing yet).
