Cole Trickle has started racing NASCAR, but he's not doing so hot. Several different races are condensed to show the current ineptitude of our protragonists. It also establishes the rivalry between Cole and Rowdy Burns which is important later in the movie.

This is a really good sports montage. Its got humor, its got action, and it does move the story along by establishing that all these great people on the team didn't start out working together very well. It is quite lengthy as well so the viewer can really get into it.
