The workers are on strike. The Japanese owners, tired of dealing with the American workers, are pulling out. And everyone is blaming Michael Keaton for the mess. The only solution is to get the American workers back to work and churn out 1000 cars in a day to meet their end of a bargain with management that will get the factory back to full-employment.
This is a nice feel-good montage that ends all the culture skirmishes in the film and instead turns the movie's conflict into employees versus "the man".
Also, a large amount of manpower seems to be devoted to grinding random parts of the car and throwing sparks. Isn't there a better way to build a car that doesn't involve this many people with electric sanders?
