Gonna Fly Now 4 and 1/2 Stars
Rocky

Rocky has gotten his shot at the championship. He's got five weeks to turn himself from a mediocre boxer into a champion level contender. With the help of Mickey, his manager, he'll use his great heart to turn the rest of himself into a winner.

In the halls of great training montages, this one stands above all others. It is The Definition of a training montage, our truly mediocre hero, through hard work, becomes a force to be reckoneed with. By the end of the montage, he's running up stairs, eating thunder, and crapping lightning.

BEST FILM EVER

The best of all time.

While this may lack in technology and special effects, this is the best montage in the history of movies. Still to this day, tourists run up the Philidalphia Art Museum's steps, and this is what started it all. This movie lacked funding, and while this may seem like a bad thing, it's really what sets it apart from all the other montages. If you watch the dvd, and listen to the commentary, you find out exactly how intersting it was to have shot this scene with barely enough money to serve the cast lunches. The part where Rocky dances on the top of the stairs was actually playing in reverse, because by the camraman's mistake, he zoomed out instead of in. Thus, because they couldn't afford to shoot more takes (plus the time of day was just right). Another interesting fact is that the scene of Rocky running up the stairs was the first time a movie used a SteadyCam.

If you've seen Rocky at as a teenager, or even younger...you need to go back and watch the DVD again, and again. You'll realize so many great things in the movie. The character played by Stallone in this movie can never be duplicated...maybe not even by him!
