Training Montage 4 and 1/2 Stars
Rocky IV

Rocky is facing his biggest challenge yet, the Russian fighting machine Ivan Drago. Drago killed Apollo Creed in the ring, and now Rocky wants revenge. Rocky has decided to train in solitude in the snowy hinterland of Russia while Drago trains in the best equipped sports center in the USSR.

Pretty much everyone talks about this montage when they talk about the Rocky movies. The music is excellent (though not a pop song) and it just looks incredible. It also serves to paint Rocky as even more the underdog as Drago has a whole staff of technician to train him while all Rocky has is Paulie and Duke. If this doesn't make you want to get off the couch and become a one man wrecking crew, nothing will.

This montage is incredible

This is my favorite montage of all time, hands down. It is amazing, If you didn't think Drago killing Apollo Creed gave Rocky the "Underdog" feel, this sure as hell will. It has all the elements that ae needed for a montage and the music just makes it even better. I especially love the part when Rocky is trying to pick up the rickshaw with Paulie and Duke sitting on it-then the song changes to "Hearts on Fire" that is poetry put into motion. Another great part is when Rocky reaches the top of the mountain and when he outruns Drago's lackies driving the Benz. Wow I could go on all day about this Montage but I just can't find the words to describe half of this stuff. I am telling anybody that has not seen this movie, but loves Montages--THIS IS THE BEST MONTAGE EVER--

Unrealistic, yet badbuttocks

Two guys, Sly and Dolph Lundgren both in their physical prime. You notice that Drago is a steroid user and that Rocky is just trainging purely on heart. This is the scene which will make the kids want to go hit the gym, or move to Syberia.

If you want to work out, listen to the training theme before you do and you will be in great shape.

I agree with everyone else. This has to be the greatest montage EVER in any film. The "Training Montage" scene, the "Hearts on Fire" scene, hell even the flashback scene with "No Easy Way Out" makes you feel like you yourself could take on the whole USSR. Show me one person who doesn't feel indestructible after watching these scenes and I will show you a person with no heart.

I agree this is the greatest montage of them all. The whole Rocky series has more montages compared to the rest of the film industry put together. Great theme, brilliant!
