A dark, sadistic killer has just begun his reign of terror, and detectives Somerset and Mills need to figure out what he's up to. Somerset spends the night at the library, reading books of classic literature that may have figured into the killer's psyche while Mills studies the crime scene evidence looking for clues.
This is a very eerie montage to have in the film. We've already scene two grisly murders and have realized that this is going to be a dark and gritty movie. Then, we have some beautiful classical music as one of our heroes does research in your typical old, city library. The montage itself is a typical library investigation montage except it's spliced with the other detective looking at crime scene shots that serves to juxtapose images of the modern crime with artistic renderings of death from classical literature. Or something.
